Miami football 2024 transfer edge rusher outgoing versus incoming production
The addition of Marshall transfer Elijah Alston and the return of Akheem Mesidor from injury is expected to offset the Miami football team losing six edge rushers to the portal. Collins Acheampong, Jahfari Harvey, Nyjalik Kelly, Cyrus Moss, Jayden Wayne and Chantz Williams are the Miami outgoing edge rushers.
Harvey and Kelly are the only two among the six outgoing edge rushers who had an impact with Miami. Harvey had 23 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, 1.0 pass breakup, 3.0 quarterback hits and a fumble recovery in 2023. Kelly had 8.0 tackles, 1.0 TFL and 1.0 PBU in 2023 in four games before suffering a season-ending injury.
Mesidor returns after recording 5.0 tackles, 1.0 TFL and 1.0 sack in three games before his season ended prematurely with a foot injury. Alston had his best season in 2023 with 45 tackles, 11.5 TFLs, 6.0 sacks, an interception returned 85 yards for a touchdown, 2.0 PBUs and 2.0 forced fumbles.
Add Rueben Bain and Miami has the potential of an elite DL in 2023. Bain had 44 tackles, 12.5 TFLs, 7.5 sacks, 1.0 PBU, four QBHs and 1.0 forced fumble in earning the ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year. Miami is one of the final schools that former Tennessee edge rusher Tyler Baron is considering as a transfer.

Jahfari Harvey | 2019-2023 | 99 tackles, 22 TFLs, 10.5 sacks, 1.0 FF, 4.0 PBUs, 1.0 Interception, 1.0 TD |
Nyjalik Kelly | 2022-2023 | 19 tackles, 5.5 TFLs, 4.0 sacks, 1.0 PBU |
Cyrus Moss | 2022-2023 | 1 tackle |

Miami signed edge rushers Marquise Lightfoot, Cole McConathy, Booker Pickett Jr. and Elias Rudolph in the 2024 class. Lightfoot was a five-star signee with the biggest upside in the class and the greatest chance to play in 2024. McConathy was impressive in spring practice.
Adding Baron would provide Miami with another elite edge rusher. Baron had 28 tackles, 10.5 TFLs, 6.0 sacks and 1.0 fumble recovery in 2023. Miami has the depth and talent to absorb the losses at edge rusher. Adding Baron would be a huge boost to not have to rely on the freshmen as the fourth edge rusher in the rotation.
