Miami football 2024 transfer LB outgoing versus incoming production
The addition of Louisville transfer Jaylin Alderman is expected to provide the Miami football team with more production at linebacker in 2024 than the losses of Corey Flagg, Marcellius Pulliam and Kaleb Spencer to the portal. Flagg was the only one of the former three who was a part of the 2023 Miami LB rotation.
Alderman had a breakout season in 2023 with 62 tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and two pass breakups. Miami gained an experienced LB with two years of eligibility remaining with the addition of Alderman. Alderman will receive significant snaps for Miami with returning starting LBs Wesley Bissainthe and Francisco Mauigoa.
Flagg was a far more significant loss for Miami than Pulliam and Spencer. Flagg finished fourth on Miami in 2023 with 48 tackles and added 7.0 TFLs, 3.0 quarterback hits and 1.0 forced fumble. During his four seasons with Miami Flagg was a reliable player who finished among the team leaders in tackles in his final three seasons.
Flagg transferred to Missouri, Pulliam to Michigan State and Spencer closer to his home in Virginia at Virginia Tech. Spencer will return to Hard Rock Stadium when Miami hosts Virginia Tech on September 27. Alderman and Bissainthe will help anchor the Miami LB corps beyond 2024 when Mauigoa departs.
Linebacker | Years with Miami | Stats |
---|---|---|
Corey Flagg | 2020-2023 | 179 tackles, 24.5 TFLs, 5.5 sacks, 1.0 FF, 2.0 PBUs and 1.0 INT |
Marcellius Pulliam | 2023 | 1.0 tackle, 1.0 interception |
Kaleb Spencer | 2023 | 1.0 tackle |
Alderman was the 703rd-ranked transfer and 49th LB in the 2024 portal. Flagg is the 783 ranked transfer 59th LB in the 2024 portal. Pulliam is 931st and 69th and Spencer is 893th and 67th. Sophomore Raul Aguirre and freshman Cameron Pruitt were impressive this spring and will likely be part of the 2024 LB rotation.
Alderman is a significant addition to the Miami football program. Miami LB coach Derek Nicholson recruited Alderman to Louisville and coached him for two seasons with the Cardinals. Miami has a good mix of experience and development for the future at LB entering the 2024 season.
