Four-star 2025 linebacker Gavin Nix committed to the Miami football program on Monday. Miami moved up two spots back to 15th in the 247Sports composite rankings. Miami passed Michigan and Wisconsin in the 2025 class rankings with the commitment from Nix on Monday.
Nix is the 169th prospect, 21st LB and 23rd player in Florida out of IMG Academy in Bradenton in the 2025 class. Nix is the 15 commit in the 2025 Miami class and the ninth since the beginning of June. Miami now has two LBs in the 2025 class. Four-star LB Elijah Melendez was the second commit in the 2025 Miami class.
Melendez is the highest-ranked 2025 Miami commit and Nix is second per the 247Sports rankings. Three-star LB Ezekiel Marcelin is also committed to Miami. Herbert Scroggins is listed as an edge rusher by 247Sports and On3 and a LB by Rivals. Miami LB coach Derek Nicholson has been productive in the 2025 class.
Miami received the commitment from Nix after he visited the Hurricanes, Oregon and Florida State on successive weekends during June. Per his 247Sports profile page, Nix received offers from 23 programs with all but two of those in power conferences. Miami now has 10 blue-chip commits in the 2025 class per the 247Sports ratings.
Playing for one of the most talented teams in the country Nix had 42 tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss, 5.0 quarterback hurries and 1.0 sacks during the 2023 season. Nix should have an opportunity to contribute as a freshman. Miami will lose Francisco Mauigoa following the 2024 season.
Louisville transfer Jaylin Alderman, returning starter LB Wesley Bissainthe and Chase Smith who primarily plays special teams will be eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft. Miami signed Adarius Hayes and Cameron Pruitt at LB in the 2024 class. Pruitt is expected to make the two-deep depth chart for Miami at LB in 2024.
Nix told 247Sports that the consistency the staff showed him during his recruitment led by Nicholson is why he chose Miami. The relationship Nix has built with Nicholson other than football also led to the decision to commit to Miami. Nix will join three 2023 signees from IMG Academy with Miami.
