Miami football 2025 defensive commitments lagging behind offense

The Miami football program has been slow adding defensive commitments in the 2025 class.

Linebacker Elijah Melendez and cornerback Timothy Merritt are the only defensive players committed to the Miami football program in the 2025 class. Miami has five players committed on offense in the 2025 class. The secondary is a position to watch in the 2025 Miami class.

Cornerback Chris Ewald and safety Amari Wallace who are trending to Miami are on official visits in Coral Gables this weekend. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine projects Miami with an 87.5 percent chance for a commitment from Ewald and a 95.0 percent chance for a Wallace commitment.

Ewald is scheduled to visit Florida the weekend of June 21 ahead of his June 27 commitment announcement. Tight end Brock Schott and running back Girard Pringle Jr. would be the only commits in the 2025 Miami class higher than Ewald if he commits to the Hurricanes.

Wallace will reportedly make a commitment announcement before the season starts. In addition to Miami, Wallace will also visit Louisville this month. Wallace will be a player to watch this weekend. Can Miami close the recruitment of Wallace before he visits Louisville next weekend?

Miami leads for five other prospects who are taking official visits with Miami in June. Cornerback Andrew Purcell is trending to Miami at 33 percent, linebacker Ezekiel Marcelin at 88 percent, defensive lineman Derry Norris at 32 percent, linebacker Gavin Nix at 31 percent and DL Randy Adirika at 97 percent.

Late June and early July could be busy for the Miami football team with commitments. The 2025 Miami class is currently ranked 47th by 247Sports and 19th by On3. Expect Miami to rise in the 2025 class rankings through the summer and fall and into Early National Signing Day in December.
