Miami football adds CB depth with Marshall transfer Dyoni Hill
The Miami football program added it third transfer in less than 24 hours with a commitment from Marshall cornerback Dyoni Hill. Oregon State running back Damien Martinez and Louisville linebacker Jaylin Alderman also committed to Miami this weekend. Hill committed to Miami on Saturday night.
Hill has two seasons of eligibility remaining. Marshall signed Hill in the 2022 class as the 1,606th ranked prospect, 142nd CB and 211th player in Florida out of Gainesville. Hill will play his first game with Miami in his hometown at Ben-Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville versus Florida on August 31.
After playing sparingly as a true freshman in 2022, Hill had 55 tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss, 10 pass breakups and a forced fumble in 2023. Hill played for Miami defensive coordinator Lance Guidry and cornerback coach Chevis Jackson at Marshall. Guidry is entering his second season with Miami and Jackson his first.
Hill has to improve in pass coverage. Per Pro Football Focus via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald "Hill allowed a 93 passer rating in his coverage area last season – 32 completions in 57 attempts for 464 yards (14.5 average), three touchdowns and an interception."
At 6'1 and 175 pounds Hill adds needed length for Miami at CB. Hill is expected to compete with Jadais Richard to be the third Miami CB behind returning starters Damari Brown and Darryl Porter Jr. Brown is 6'2, Porter 5'10 and Richard 6'1. Sophomore Robert Stafford should be the other CB to compete for snaps in 2024.
Hill will join his former Marshall teammate, edge rusher Elijah Alston, with Miami. Alston transferred to Miami during the winter portal cycle. Miami hired Jackson in February. Playing for a pair of his former coaches at Marshall should provide Hill with a smooth transition to Miami.
