The Miami football program continued its recruiting hot streak with a commitment from three-star edge rusher Herbert Scroggins on Friday morning. Scroggins is the first defensive lineman in the 2025 Miami class. Defensive line coach Jason Taylor continues to show his eliteness as a recruiter over the last two classes.

Scroggins is the 407th prospect, 29th edge rusher and 46th player in Georgia in the 2025 class out of Savannah Benedictine Military School. Miami now has 14 commits in their 2025 class and moved up one spot to 15th nationally. Miami received a commitment from four-star cornerback Chris Ewald on Thursday evening.

Scroggins took official visits to Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Miami in June. Scroggins has a September official visit scheduled with Auburn. Before his Miami official visit, Scroggins told Inside the U he was leaning towards Auburn. The humbleness of Mario Cristobal and ability to play for Jason Taylor helped Miami.

Miami secured the commitment from Scroggins after he took his official visit to Coral Gables this past weekend. Scroggins is the ninth commitment to the 2025 Miami class in June. Miami has eight commitments on offense and six on defense in the 2025 class.

Per Steve Wiltfong of On3 Scroggins had "84 tackles, 12 sacks, 10 more stops for loss and 14 quarterback hurries" as a junior in 2023." At 6'2 and 235 pounds, Scroggins will have to add more muscle mass as an edge rusher. Some outlets have referred to Scroggins as an outside linebacker.

Scroggins will provide depth on the 2025 Miami roster. Miami losses incoming transfer edge rushers Elijah Alston and Tyler Baron after the 2024 season. Defensive lineman Akheem Mesidor who started at edge rusher for Miami in 2022 and early in 2023 will be eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft.
