Miami football at Florida season opener gets prime TV slot and network
The Miami football team will open the season at Florida on August 31 at 3:30 PM Eastern time on ABC as announced by ESPN on Tuesday. The gametime and network had not been announced before Tuesday. ESPN released its nationally televised games for week one on Tuesday.
Miami is playing Florida for the first time since 2019. The Hurricanes are playing in Gainesville for the first time since 2008. Florida will play at Miami on September 20, 2025. Miami has not learned game times and networks for any other 2024 games.
Miami hosts Virginia Tech on Friday, September 27 in its only non-Saturday game in 2024. Virginia Tech at Miami is currently the only game scheduled on September 27. Miami will have its home opener on September 7 versus Florida A&M. The Hurricanes do not leave Florida until October.
Miami hosts Ball State on September 14 and plays at South Florida on September 21. The first Miami road game in 2024 is at California on October 5. Miami is the first ACC home game for California. The Virginia Tech game is the 2024 ACC opener for Miami.
The Miami at Florida game will be a pivotal one for both teams. Billy Napier of Florida and Mario Cristobal are entering critical seasons in their tenures. Miami is 12-13 in two seasons under Cristobal. Florida is 11-14 in their first two years of Napier's tenure.
Miami leads the all-time series with Florida 29-27. The Hurricanes have won 12 out of the last 17 games versus the Gators. Miami has not won in Gainesville since a 41-16 win in 2002. Florida finished 5-7 in 2023. The Gators have had three consecutive losing seasons for the first time in 76 years.
