Miami Football CB Damari Brown ready to take on whole season
Speaking to reporters after practice this week, cornerback Damari Brown said he is prepared to take on the whole season after starting the final three games for the Miami football team in 2023. Brown finished the 2023 season with 14 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. Brown had at least two tackles in six games, including the final five.
Brown returns as a projected starting CB with Darryl Porter Jr. for Miami entering the 2024 season. They will be paired with a couple of new starting safeties. At 6'2, Brown provides Miami with length at CB. Entering his sophomore season, Brown needs to improve in pass coverage.
Per Pro Football Focus via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Brown allowed a 96 passer rating in his coverage area. Brown showed his ability to develop last season. In the final four games of the regular season, Brown finished with nine tackles. Miami needs continued development from Brown in 2024.
Brown will receive competition from junior Jadais Richard and redshirt freshman Robert Stafford to be the starting CB opposite Porter Jr. Miami could add a transfer CB to come in and compete to be a starter and add depth. Miami is thin at CB entering the 2024 season.
"Knowledge about the game. But nothing really technical. I can improve technique-wise and stuff. But just more knowledge for the game...It was big. You know throwing me out there as a true freshman, (I) know I was ready for the moment. But with those few games coming into this season, I feel like I'll be prepared to take on the whole season."
- Miami CB Davonte Brown
Brown will have an interesting situation when Miami plays Florida State this season. Damari Brown's brother Davante, who played for Miami last season transferred to Florida State during the offseason. Brown stated Davante had to do what was best for him but when Miami plays FSU it will be business.
After missing the beginning of spring practice, Brown told reporters Thursday he was getting better. Brown mentioned Jacolby George and freshman JoJo Trader when asked which wide receivers are standing out this spring. Miami will play its spring game on campus on Saturday with a 4 PM kickoff.
