Miami football complete ACC schedule released, including Manny Diaz and FSU

The Miami football team learned the remainder of its 2024 ACC schedule on Wednesday, after it was announced on Tuesday they would begin conference play on September 27 versus Virginia Tech. Miami will play Florida State on October 26 and has its first ACC road game at California on October 5.

Florida State, Georgia Tech and Louisville are the only three teams on the 2024 schedule that Miami played in 2023. The Seminoles, Yellow Jackets and Cardinals gave Miami half of its six losses in 2024. Miami plays at Louisville on October 19 and at Georgia Tech on November 9.

Miami does not play a home game from the September 27 game versus Virginia Tech through the Florida State game on October 26. The first Miami bye week is October 12 between their games at California and Louisville. Miami will finish the regular season on the road on November 30 at Syracuse.

The game versus Florida State begins a stretch of three out of four games at home with their second bye week November 16. Miami will host Duke on November 2, play at Georgia Tech on November 9 and host Wake Forest on November 23 before concluding their regular season at Syracuse on November 30.

The records listed in each match up are how the teams finished in 2023.

Miami leads the all-time series versus Virginia Tech 25-15. The Hurricanes have a 10-9 advantage over the Hokies since the programs joined the ACC in 2004. Miami has won the last three games versus Virginia Tech. The Hurricanes and Hokies did not play during the 2022 season.

Miami will play at California for the second time. Miami defeated Cal 52-24 in 1990. Cal beat Miami 24-17 in the Emerald Bowl at Pac Bell Park, less than 15 miles from Berkeley. The series between Cal and Miami is tied at two. Cal won the first meeting 9-7 in Miami in 1964. Miami beat Cal 31-3 in Miami in 1989.

Louisville defeated Miami 38-31 in 2023. Miami leads the all-time series 11-4-1. The win by Louisville over Miami in 2023 ended a two-game Hurricanes winning streak in the series. Louisville previously had a three-game winning streak in the series. Louisville leads the series 3-2 in the ACC.

Miami leads the series with Florida State 35-32. Florida State brings a three-game winning streak versus Miami to Hard Rock Stadium. Miami is 7-12 all-time versus Florida State since 2004 when the Hurricanes joined the ACC. Florida State leads the all-time series in Miami 21-18.

Miami leads the series versus Duke 15-5. Miami is only 6-3 versus Duke in Miami and 4-2 at Hard Rock Stadium. Duke won the last meeting 45-21 at Hard Rock Stadium in 2022. Manny Diaz will return to Miami in his first season as the head coach at Duke. Duke finished 8-5 in 2023 under Mike Elko.

Miami should have their game at Georgia Tech circled after their disheartening 23-20 loss in 2023. The series between Georgia Tech is tied at 14. Miami had won five of the previous seven games versus Georgia Tech before 2023. Miami leads the series with Georgia Tech 11-8 as ACC rivals.

Miami and Wake Forest are playing for the first time since 2013. The Hurricanes are Demon Deacons had their 2020 game canceled because of Covid. Miami was in the ACC Coastal and Wake Forest was in the Atlantic division. Miami leads the all-time series with Wake Forest 8-3, including 5-3 in Miami.

Miami will finish the season in the Northeast for the second straight year. The Hurricanes lead the all-time series with the Orange 16-7. Miami is 7-3 at Syracuse. Syracuse will be in its first season under new head coach Fran Brown. Brown was previously on the staff at Georgia.

The Miami schedule appears to be more favorable in 2023. Clemson and North Carolina are off the schedule from 2023. Florida, Florida State and Louisville are likely the only games Miami will enter as an underdog. If Miami can win the games they are projected to, they can have their best season since finishing 10-3 in 2017.
