Miami football continues IMG Academy Pipeline with Gavin Nix commitment

The commitment from four-star linebacker Gavin Nix on Monday continued a pipeline by the Miami football program with IMG Academy in Bradenton.

The Miami football program renewed its pipeline to IMG Academy in Bradenton on Monday with a commitment from four-star linebacker Gavin Nix. Miami signed four players from IMG Academy in the 2023 class. All but edge rusher Jayden Wayne remains on the Miami roster entering the 2024 season.

Miami renews the pipeline to IMG Academy with Nix after not signing any players from there in the 2024 class. In addition to Wayne, Miami also signed five-star offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa, four-star tight end Riley Williams and four-star interior offensive lineman Antonio Tripp in the 2023 class out of IMG Academy.

The pipeline for Miami on the current roster dates to 2020, when wide receiver Michael Redding signed with Miami two years before Mario Cristobal was hired as head coach. The four players on the current Miami roster have had varying levels of contribution during their Hurricane careers.

Mauigoa was the sixth-ranked player, second offensive tackle and second player nationally in the 2023 class. As a true freshman in 2023, Mauigoa started all 13 games at right tackle. Mauigoa earned consensus Freshman All-American and was named honorable mention All-ACC.

Williams was the 152nd ranked prospect, eighth TE and 36th player in Florida in 2023. As a true freshman, Williams tied for the Miami lead among TEs with eight receptions and was first on the Hurricanes at the position with 72 receiving yards while scoring the lone touchdown.

Tripp was the 28th interior offensive lineman and 67th player in Florida in the 247Sports rankings. Per his official Miami profile page, Tripp will be a redshirt freshman in 2024 after not receiving any snaps during the 2023 season. Tripp is a long-term prospect to watch with an experienced Miami offensive line returning in 2024.

Nix will join a Miami LB corps that could be rebuilding in 2025. Starting middle LB Francisco Mauigoa is entering his last season of eligibility in 2024. Fellow starter Wesley Bissainthe and backup Chase Smith will be eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft. Expect the pipeline to IMG Academy to continue with Cristobal as head coach.
