Miami football debuts slight inside top 20 of 2024 AP Top 25 preseason poll
The Miami football team matched their ranking of 19th in the USA Today Coaches poll that was released last Monday in the same spot in the Associated Press Top 25. Miami is back in the preseason rankings after not being ranked to begin the 2023 season.
Miami received 492 points in the Associated Press Top 25. Kansas State is one spot ahead of Miami with 526 points. Texas A&M is a spot behind Miami with 292 points. Miami is one of four ACC teams ranked in the AP Top 25. Florida State is 10th, Clemson is 14th and North Carolina State is 24th.
Florida State received 971 points in the AP Top 25 poll, Clemson 689 and NC State had 171. FSU was 10th, Clemson 14th and NC State 23rd in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Miami hosts Florida State on October 26. Clemson and NC State are not on the 2024 Miami football schedule.
Louisville and Virginia Tech are the only other 2024 Miami opponents who received votes. Louisville is 26th in the rankings with 111 points and Virginia Tech is 27th with 77 points. Miami hosts Virginia Tech on Friday, September 27 and plays at Louisville on October 19. Louisville and Virginia Tech are the only ACC teams under others receiving votes.
Miami received a preseason ranking for the second time in Mario Cristobal's three seasons as head coach. The Hurricanes began the 2022 season ranked 16th nationally. Miami has not finished the season ranked since they were 22nd in the final poll of the 2020 season.
Cristobal has led his teams to a preseason ranking in six of the last seven years. Oregon was ranked ninth in the 2020 preseason poll under Cristobal. That was the only top-10 preseason ranking for a Cristobal team. Oregon was 11th in the 2019 and 2021 preseason polls. Miami last began a season in the top 10 when they were eighth in 2018.
