Miami football defensive backs summer enrollee expectations
Cornerback Romanas Frederique Jr. and defensive back Ryan Mack help the secondary in the 2024 class in the Miami football program that needs depth. Defensive back is considered the weakest unit in what should be an improved Miami defense during the 2024 season.
Frederique Jr. is the lowest rated of the four listed above in the 2024 class. The 247Sports composite rankings list Frederique Jr. as the 777 signee, 67th CB and 108th prospect in Florida in the 2024 class out of St. Thomas Aquinas. Frederique had 28 tackles and 10 pass breakups as a senior in 2023.
Frederique Jr. and Mack are two of the five DBs Miami signed in the 2024 class. Miami also signed safeties Dylan Day, Zaquan Patterson and Isaiah Thomas. Patterson has the best chance to play among the 2024 DBs Miami signed. Frederique could be headed for a redshirt season.
Miami returns starting CBs Damari Brown and Darryl Porter Jr. and most of the reserves on the 2024 roster. Day is more likely to receive snaps at CB in 2024 than Frederique Jr. The 2024 class was critical for Miami, adding depth to the secondary in 2024 and for the future.
Frederique, Mack, running back Jordan Lyle and wide receiver Chance Robinson all signed with Miami in 2024 class from St. Thomas Aquinas. Mack is the 330 prospect, 28th CB and 46th player in Florida in the 2024 class. Some sites list Mack as a safety. Mack primarily played CB Under Armour All-American Game week.
Snaps could be available for Mack behind Brown and Porter Jr. Brown worked his way into the rotation as a true freshman in 2023 as the season evolved. Mack has to surpass redshirt sophomore Jaden Harris, junior Jadais Richard and redshirt freshman Robert Stafford to earn snaps in 2024.
