Artavius Jones, Daylen Russell and Justin Scott are part of what has been praised nationally as the best 2024 defensive line class. Jones, Russell and Scott join the Miami football program as summer enrollees after several of their classmates participated in spring practice.

Scott is the highest-ranked 2024 Miami signee. The 247Sports composite rankings have Scott as the 10th-best 2024 signee nationally, third defensive lineman (not including edge rushers) and the top player in Illinois. Scott has a chance to compete for snaps as a true freshman. August training camp will be important for Scott.

Scott is one of two star DL Miami signed from Chicago. Four-star edge rusher Marquise Lightfoot was an early enrollee in January. The 2024 class projects as a potentially dominant DL in the future. Scott will be a good addition to the Miami defensive tackle rotation behind transfers Simeon Barrow, C.J. Clark, and Marley Cook.

Jones was a four-star signee who projects as a nose tackle. Jones and Scott should develop into an elite DT tandem for Miami in a year or two. Barrow, Clark and Cook transferring to Miami provide defensive coordinator Lance Guidry a chance to develop the young DTs during the 2024 season.

Russell is lower ranked than Jones or Scott. Mario Cristobal added another fellow Columbus High School alum to the Miami roster. Russell could be in line for a developmental season and a redshirt. Russell totaled 157 tackles, 32.0 tackles for loss, 17,0 sacks and 16.0 quarterback hurries in the last three seasons for Columbus.

Jones, Russell and Scott should complement and push each other. Miami has set an excellent foundation for the future at DT. Jones and Scott have the potential to be elite players. Russell is the type of productive player that every college football program needs on its roster. Miami DL coaches Jason Taylor and Joe Salave'a are elite recruiters.
