Miami football DL Jamil Burroughs reportedly out of program
Matt Zenitz of 247Sports is reporting with Gaby Urrutia of Inside The U "The current expectation is that Miami defensive lineman Jamil Burroughs won’t be a part of the program moving forward." Burroughs transferred to Miami in August and was not eligible during the 2023 season.
The late transfer by Burroughs to Miami required him to sit out the entire 2023 season. Burroughs entered the transfer portal last June after an altercation with an Alabama staff member. Burroughs was the 347th-ranked signee, 34th defensive tackle and 34th player in Georgia in the 2020 247Sports composite rankings.
In three seasons with Alabama, Burroughs recorded 15 tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks. While previously working for On3. Zenitz quoted Alabama offensive lineman Tyler Booker, “Jamil Burroughs is one of the best pass rushers in the nation...Jamil is so quick and he’s very smart as well.”
Burroughs was not projected in the 2024 three-deep depth chart by David Lake of Inside the U. Lake projects North Carolina State transfer C.J. Clark and Miami returnee Jared Harrison-Hunte to be the starting DTs for the Hurricanes in 2024. Marley Cook, Josh Horton, Ahmad Moten and Justin Scott are the projected Miami 2024 backup DTs.
Cook is a transfer from Middle Tennessee State, Horton and Moten are returnees for Miami in 2024 and Scott is a five-star signee in the 2024 class. Miami has other options on the roster at DT. ACC Rookie of the Year Rueben Bain and Akheem Mesidor each have experience moving inside on passing downs.
Mesidor missed most of the 2024 season with an injury. Armondo Blount, another 2024 five-star Miami signee, also can play defensive end or tackle. Miami could pursue another DT transfer this spring. The spring transfer portal window is open from April 16 through the 30.
