The Miami football program has received a commitment from Albany transfer quarterback Reese Poffenbarger. Poffenbarger led the Football Championship Subdivision with 36 passing touchdowns and 3,603 yards this season. Poffenbarger adds depth to the Miami QB room.

In 2023, Poffenbarger finished 26th in FCS with a 142.47 passer rating and 60th with a 58.7 completion percentage. Miami returns Jacurri Brown and Emory Williams and adds 2024 signee Judd Anderson at QB. The Hurricanes could still add another transfer QB who would come to Miami and be expected to start.

In two seasons at Albany Poffenbarger completed 59.07 percent of his passing attempts for 5,969 yards, 56 TDs and 16 interceptions. Poffenbarger also ran for 200 yards and five TDs in two seasons at Albany. All but 13 yards and all five rushing TDs came in 2023. Albany lists Poffenbarger as 6'0 and 205 pounds.

Poffenbarger is the 463rd ranked transfer and 53rd QB in the portal per the 247Sports rankings. In the last two seasons, Poffenbarger completed 47.37 percent of his passes for 427 yards three TDs and no interceptions with 37 carries for 95 yards and two TDs versus FBS opponents Baylor, Hawaii and Marshall.

Poffenbarger began his collegiate career at Old Dominion in 2020. The 247 Sports composite rankings had Poffenbarger as the 1,985th prospect, 71st pro style QB and 50th player in Maryland in the 2020 class. Poffenbarger did not play and redshirted as a true freshman at Old Dominion in 2020.

The best performance by Poffenbarger versus an FBS school was versus Marshall in 2023. Poffenbarger was completed 22 passes in 38 attempts for 194 yards and added 15 carries for 37 yards and a TD versus the Thundering Herd. Poffenbarger was a third-team FCS All-American in 2023.

In 2023, Poffenbarger was on the Walter Payton Award Preseason Watch List as the best player in FCS. Poffenbarger was the runner-up for the Jerry Rice Award as the best freshman in FCS in 2022. Poffenbarger will have two seasons of eligibility remaining with the Miami football program.
