Miami Football expecting more transfer commits after Damien Martinez
As Canes Warning projected earlier in the week, the Miami football program is expected to receive more transfer commitments in the next few days. Manny Navarro of The Athletic reported that Miami is expected to receive commitments from Louisville linebacker Jaylin Alderman and Marshall cornerback Dyoni Hill soon.
Commitments from Alderman and Hill would occur after Miami received a commitment from Oregon State running back Damien Martinez on Saturday night. The Miami transfer class zoomed up to 18th with the addition of Martinez. Miami has 10 incoming transfers with the addition of Martinez.
Miami has added four offensive transfers and six on defense. Martinez and Miami quarterback Cam Ward are impact players. The rest of the Miami transfer additions add depth. Most transfers, including Alderman and Hill, would be expected to be in the rotation.
There is no specific timetable for when Alderman and Hill will commit to Miami. Alderman, Hill and Martinez visited Miami this weekend with other transfer targets. Martinez is the projected starting RB for Miami in 2024.
Mark Fletcher, the projected starting Miami RB might not be ready for the beginning of the season with a Lisfranc foot injury. Martinez provides Miami with a proven history of production. Martinez At 6'0 and 232 pounds, Martinez has the power to run inside and speed to create explosive plays.
Alderman was recruited to Louisville by Miami LB coach Derek Nicholson. In 2023 Alderman had a breakout season with 62 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and two passes defended. Alderman would projected to be a starting LB for Miami next to Wesley Bissainthe and Francisco Mauigoa.
Hill would add depth. Darryl Porter Jr. and Damari Brown are entrenched for Miami as the starting CBs. Washington transfer Mishael Powell primarily played the slot CB for Miami during spring practice. Powell can also play safety. Hill had a Pro Football Focus grade of 72.5 with 52 tackles, one interception and 10 pass breakups.
Miami has cleared space on its roster with outgoing transfers. Five to six new players are expected to be added to the Miami roster during the spring transfer portal window. Alderman, Hill and Martinez would get Miami halfway to their reported goal. Mario Cristobal and his staff continue to upgrade the Miami roster.
