Miami football gains critical commitment from 4-star CB Chris Ewald
The Miami football program landed one of its biggest commitments in the 2025 class from four-star cornerback Chris Ewald early on Thursday evening. Ewald is the 169th prospect, 21st CB and 24th player in Florida out of Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna in the 2025 class.
Tight end Brock Schott and running back Girard Pringle Jr. are the only 2025 Miami commits ranked higher than Ewald nationally in the 2025 class. Ewald is a critical commitment for Mario Cristobal, co-defensive coordinators Lance Guidry and Derek Nicholson and new secondary coach Chevis Jackson.
Jackson led the recruitment for Ewald after being hired away from Marshall to Miami during the 2024 offseason. Ewald is the second CB and third defensive back in the 2025 Miami class. Miami previously received commitments from safety Amari Wallace and CB Timothy Merritt.
The 2025 Miami class moves up to 17th nationally with the addition of Ewald. Before the recent surge of commits the 2025 Miami class was in the 40s in the 247Sports composite rankings. Miami has made CB a priority in the 2025 class. Ewald and Merritt were one of 10 CBs to take official visits to Miami in June.
Ewald chose Miami over Georgia. The Bulldogs hosted Ewald for an official visit this past weekend. Although Miami was considered the favorite for Ewald shortly after he de-committed from Michigan in January, several recruiting outlets reported Georgia was making a late push for a commitment.
At 6'0 Ewald provides Miami the length that Cristobal likes at CB. Ewald will need to add muscle mass to his 165-pound frame. Ewald should have a chance to compete for significant snaps as a freshman. Miami loses starting CB Darryl Porter who is entering his final season of eligibility in 2024.
Miami does not have a lot of depth or experience at CB on its 2025 roster. Sophomore Damari Brown could be entering his last season with Miami in 2025 when Ewald is entering his final season. Brown will be eligible for the 2026 NFL Draft. Ewald will be one of the most highly-rated CBs on the 2025 Miami roster.
