Shehan Jeyarajah of CBS Sports wrote to "keep an eye on Miami (and that they are one of the) buy low candidates" among the teams ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 released Monday. Miami is ranked 19th in the AP preseason Top 25.

Brad Crawford of 247Sports listed Miami as one of his underrated teams in the preseason poll. Crawford is cautiously optimistic about Miami entering the 2024 season. As with nearly every season over the past 20-plus years, Miami has to prove they are worthy of their ranking.

The consensus on Miami entering the 2024 season is the addition of high level transfers will elevate the Hurricanes this fall. Quarterback Cam Ward and running back Damien Martinez are the most frequently mentioned transfer additions to Miami. Martinez and Ward have to play at a high level for Miami in 2024.

Miami also added key transfers at other positions. Sam Brown is projected to be a key contributor at wide receiver. Zach Carpenter strengthens the offensive line at center. Edge rushers Elijah Alston and Tyler Baron give Miami one of the deepest groups nationally at that position. Jeyarajah summarized the outlook for Miami.

"Miami (FL): It's reasonable for voters to play it safe with the Hurricanes after two inconsistent seasons under coach Mario Cristobal, but this is the year it pays off. "The U" put together one of the most stacked transfer classes in the country with quarterback Cam Ward and running back Damien Martinez. The offense alone should be one of the nation's best, and the defense has plenty of experience. "
