Miami football has high success rate with LBs who took official visits

The Miami football program has had a high success rate with the linebackers who have taken official visits in the last month.

The commitment from three-star prospect Ezekiel Marcelin on Saturday gave the Miami football program pledges from two out of the four linebackers who visited the Hurricanes in the last month. Four-star LB Elijah Melendez reasserted his December commitment to Miami on Sunday following his official visit this weekend.

In addition to Marcelin and Melendez, Miami also hosted Gavin Nix and Eric Winters for official visits. Nix is trending to Miami and Winters committed to Auburn earlier this month. Miami will lose Francisco Mauigoa after the 2024 season and Wesley Bissainthe and Chase Smith are eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft.

Winters is the highest-ranked player of the four LBs who took official visits to Miami. The 247Sports profile Winters lists him as a LB and safety. Winters is listed as a safety by On3. Winters is the 65th-ranked prospect, seventh safety and fifth player in Alabama in the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Miami, Georgia, Florida State and Auburn hosted Winters for official visits. Winters committed to Auburn on June 15 the same weekend he visited the Tigers. Cooper Petagna who is a National Recruiting Analyst projects Winters as a safety who will likely play closer to the line of scrimmage.

Nix took his official visit to Miami the weekend of June 7. Oregon hosted Nix the weekend of June 14 followed by Florida State a week later. Gaby Urruta of Inside logged a crystal ball for Nix to Miami on June 12. The On3 projections list Miami with a 31.3 percent chance for a Nix commitment, followed by Florida and Florida State.

Melendez took official visits to Auburn, Mississippi and Oklahoma before his final stop at Miami this weekend. Following his official visit to Miami Melendez reasserted he is 1000 percent a Miami Hurricane in an X post. Melendez is the 135th ranked prospect, 16th LB and 20th player in Florida in the 2024 class.

Marcelin took official visits to Miami, Pittsburgh, Louisville and Stanford per On3 before committing to Miami on Sunday. Marcelin is the 450th prospect, 47th LB and 61st player in Florida in the 2025 class. Miami moved up to 33rd in the 247Sports composite rankings following the commitment from Marcelin.
