Miami football has one player named AP preseason All-American
Kicker Andres Borregales was the only Miami football player named an Associated Press preseason All-American when he was named to their second team on Monday. Borregales was behind former Alabama kicker Graham Nicholson who transferred from Miami (Ohio) on Monday.
The 2024 second-team preseason All-American is the second for Borregales. ESPN previously named Nicholson as their first team 2024 preseason All-American kicker and Borregales to the second team. Borregales is the only ACC player named second-team All-American.
North Carolina running back Omarrion Hampton, Louisville edge rusher Ashton Gillotte, Clemson linebacker Barrett Carter and Florida State punter Alex Mastromanno were first-team All-Americans from the ACC. Miami plays Louisville on October 19 and Florida State on October 26. Miami doesn't play Clemson or UNC in 2024.
Borregales made 22 of his 26 field goal attempts and 44 out of 45 extra point attempts for 110 points in 2023. Borregales made all five of his FG attempts inside of 30 yards in 2023, nine out of 10 from 30-39 yards, four of five from 40-49 yards and four of six from 50 plus. Borregales averaged 63.01 yards per kickoff in 2023.
Earlier this summer Borreagales was named preseason first Team All-ACC in 2023 and to the Groza Award Watch list. Borregales was named 2023 First-team All-ACC and a Groza Award semifinalist. The ACC named Borregales honorable mention all-conference after the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
Borregales is 21 field goals behind Michael Badgley for the Miami career record and needs 114 points to tie him for the career record. Borregales should come close to those records in 2024. Miami is expected to be improved and more explosive on offense in 2024. That should help Borregales.
Borregales set career highs with 22 made field goals, 26 attempts and 110 points in 2023. Borregales' previous career highs were 17 field goals, 21 attempts and 96 points as a freshman in 2021. With another season like 2023, Borregales will become arguably the greatest kicker in Miami history.
