Miami football identified OTs with high success rate from official visits
The Miami football program received commitments from two of the three offensive tackles they hosted for official visits in June. Demetrius Campbell and Jaden Wilkerson committed to Miami later in June after their official visits. Jaelyne Matthews chose Rutgers over Miami and other programs.
Wilkerson was in the first group of official visitors in June that began the weekend of May 31. Syracuse and Rutgers hosted Wilkerson for official visits following his trip to Coral Gables. Wilkerson also took unofficial visits to Central Florida, Florida State and North Carolina.
Wilkerson is the 1,267 prospect, 98th OT and 173rd player in Florida out of Orlando Edgewater. After previously attending Lake Nona, Wilkerson transferred to Edgewater for the 2024 season. At 6'6 and 330 pounds, Wilkerson provides Miami with massive size as a potential anchor on the OL.
Campbell and Matthews were two of the 16 prospects who took official visits to Miami the weekend of June 7. Miami also hosted interior offensive lineman Cortez Smith on the June 7 weekend. Smith is trending significantly to Georgia. Miami has commitments from IOL Max Buchanan and Takaylen Muex.
Campbell is the 911th prospect nationally 63rd OT and 114th player in Florida out of Orlando Christian Prep. Campbell ranks 13th out of the 16 Miami commitments as of Friday morning. At 6'6 and 300 pounds, Campbell already has the ideal size to play tackle in college.
Matthews was a huge commitment for Rutgers. The 247Sports Composite Rankings have Matthews as the 332nd prospect, 28th OT and 11th player in New Jersey out of Tom's River. Rutgers and Miami hosted Matthews for official visits before the four-star prospect committed to the Scarlet Knights.
Under Mario Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal, Miami has prioritized the trenches offensively. The 2025 class is critical for the OL. Miami will likely lose Jalen Rivers at OT after the 2024 season. Francis Mauigoa is a projected 2026 first-round pick and will likely leave after the 2025 season.
Development on the OL will continue to be a priority under Cristobal. In addition to Mauigoa in the 2023 class, Miami signed fellow five-star OT Samson Okunlola. Miami signed massive 6'8.5 and 340-pound junior college OT Markel Bell and freshmen Juan Minaya and Deryc Plazz in the 2024 class.
