The Miami football team is listed as the second favorite for four-star Edwardsville, Illinois defensive lineman Iose Epenesa behind Iowa with a June 22 visit scheduled to Coral Gables. Epenesa is an Iowa legacy. Epenesa's brother A.J. was first-team All-Big 10 in 2018 and 2019.

Miami is the last of five official visits that Epenesa has scheduled per a post on X by his father Eppy. Penn State is first with an official visit from Epenesa the weekend of May 18, followed by Missouri the weekend of June 1, Iowa June 8, Utah June 15 and then Miami.

Epenesa is on the cusp of being a five-star prospect. Epenesa is the 37th prospect, fifth DL and second-best player in Illinois in the 2025 class in the 247Sports rankings. Miami is on the verge of going into Illinois and adding a top DL from the Land of Lincoln for the second straight year.

Miami signed the top two DL in Illinois in the 2024 class with tackle Justin Scott and edge rusher Marquise Lightfoot. Lightfoot and Scott were both five-star signees. Edwardsville is on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River from St. Louis. Lightfoot and Scott are from Chicago.

Four-star linebacker Elijah Melendez is the only 2025 Miami defensive commit. Epenesa would be a huge addition to the top 2024 DL class. Miami also signed five-star versatile DL Armondo Blount and several blue-chip edge rushers. Four-star tight end Brock Schott is currently the highest-ranked 2024 Miami commit.
