The Miami football program is trending for four-star cornerback Chris Ewald ahead of his June 27 commitment per On3. Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U and Tom Loy of their parent company 247Sports reported on Thursday night Ewald will take official visits to Miami and Georgia before his commitment announcement.

Ewald is the 168th prospect, 21st CB and 24th player in Florida in the 2025 class per the 247Sports composite rankings. Ewald is taking an official visit to Miami the weekend of June 14 and Georgia June 21. Miami has an 86.4 percent chance for an Ewald commitment per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

There are no 247Sports crystal balls logged for Ewald. Nearly six months after committing to Michigan, Ewald de-committed following Jim Harbaugh's leaving to accept the head coaching position with the Los Angeles Chargers in January. Ewald had visits planned to Penn State and Louisville per 247Sports, but those appear to be canceled.

In three years at Chaminade-Madonna, Ewald has 100 tackles, one tackle for loss, seven interceptions and 32 passes defended (with all of them in the last two years per Max Preps). Miami currently has six 2025 commitments. Four-star linebacker Elijah Melendez is the only defensive player committed to Miami for 2025.

Expect CB to be a position of emphasis for Miami in the 2025 class. Romanus Frederique was the only CB Miami signed in the 2024 class. Dylan Day was signed as a safety but will play CB for Miami. Miami will lose starting CB Daryl Porter Jr. and Washington transfer Mishael Powell from the secondary after the 2024 season.

There will be opportunities for freshmen to play for Miami at CB in 2024. Mario Cristobal and his staff have shown a willingness to play freshmen. Damari Brown started the final three games at CB in 2023. Andrew Ivins of 247Sports stated Ewald is equally "versed in both press-man and off-man coverage" and a Willing tackler.
