Miami football just inside composite Top 25 Post-Spring Rankings
The Miami football team is 19th in the Composite Top 25 Post-Spring Rankings posted by USA Today College Sports Wire on Friday. College Sports Wire "compiled a top 25 ranking with their post-spring rankings from USA TODAY Sports, CBS, ESPN, and The Athletic."
Miami is 17th in the CBS Sports Top 25, 24th in the ESPN rankings and The Athletic has the Hurricanes 10th. USA Today Sports Wire does not have Miami in their top 25. Miami surged five spots in the CBS Sports Post Spring Rankings due to adding five key transfers during the recent portal window.
The extreme variation in the rankings for Miami is not surprising. Miami is always a polarizing team. Ari Wasserman of The Athletic praised Mario Cristobal for his ability to accumulate talent but opined that this season is the time for Miami to take the next step. The 2024 season will be a pivotal one for the Cristobal era in Coral Gables.
Miami is the third highest-ranked team in the ACC in the Composite Top 25 Post-Spring Rankings with 42 points. Clemson received 43 points and is 14 in the composite rankings and Florida State is 15th with 42 points. North Carolina State tied for 19th with Miami and Louisville who is 24th with nine points was 24th among other ACC teams.
ACC newcomer SMU, who had four points, tied with USC for 26th to finish just outside the rankings. Virginia Tech had three points to tie with Kentucky for 27th to finish just outside the rankings. The composite rankings do not include 247Sports, which ranks Miami 14th and On3, where the Hurricanes are 18th.
The 247Sports rankings were posted on April 22. Miami added the first of its five key 2024 transfers, running back Damien Martinez, on April 27. On3 posted their ratings on May 6. Miami would trend higher with the 247Sports and On3 rankings included. Miami would likely be higher in the 247Sports rankings with the new transfers added in.
