Miami football LB coach Derek Nicholson recruited transfer Jaylin Alderman to Louisville
Before he was hired with the Miami football program, linebacker coach Derek Nicholson recruited recent transfer portal entry Jaylin Alderman to Louisville.
Jaylin Alderman was signed by Louisville in the 2021 class by Miami football linebacker coach Derek Nicholson. Alderman had a breakout season for Louisville in 2023 with 62 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and two passes defended. Alderman was productive for the Cardinals after not playing in 2022.
As a true freshman in 2021, Alderman had 17 tackles, 0.5 TFLs, one interception that he returned for a touchdown and one pass defended. Alderman was the 1,283 signee, 142nd LB and 120th player in Georgia in the 2021 class out of Valdosta. Louisville was the only power five team at that time to offer Alderman out of high school.
Miami needs to add depth and experience and at LB. Returning starters Wesley Bissainthe and Francisco Mauigoa are the only experienced LBs on the Miami depth chart. Alderman had six tackles and 0.5 TFL as Louisville won 38-31 at Miami last season.
Miami has added nine transfers in the 2024 portal. Six of the nine transfers are on defense. Miami has added two defensive tackles, one edge rusher and three safeties. None of the transfer additions are LBs. Expect LB to be a priority in the spring transfer portal. Miami has not added a transfer during the spring portal window.

The 6’1 225 LB started all 13 games for the Cardinals in 2023.

Alderman is the 536th ranked transfer and 50th LB in the 2024 On3 portal rankings. True Freshman Cameron Pruitt and sophomore Raul Aguirre are the projected second-team LBs behind Bissainthe and Mauigoa. Alderman would provide Miami with an experienced and productive LB.

In addition to Pruitt, Miami signed Adarius Hayes at LB in the 2024 class. Miami has eight scholarship LBs on the 2024 roster. Bissainthe, Mauigoa and redshirt junior Chase Smith are the only scholarship LBs on the Miami roster with more than two years in college. Alderman would be a big boost to the Miami LB room.
