Miami football lining up visit for Number 2 transfer WR Sam Brown
The Miami football program is lining up a visit with Houston transfer Sam Brown, the second-ranked wide receiver in the transfer portal, per Pete Nakos of On3. Brown will also visit LSU and Texas A&M, per Nakos. Brown spent the last two seasons at Houston after beginning his collegiate career at West Virginia
Brown led Houston with 62 receptions and 815 receiving yards and added three touchdowns. During his first season with Houston in 2022, Brown had 41 receptions for 471 receiving yards and four TDs. Brown played in all 12 Houston games in 2023 with 11 started and earned Honorable-Mention All Big XII.
Brown was the 448th ranked signee, 77th WR and 46th prospect in Georgia in the 2020 class out of Bloomingdale. Miami quarterback Cam Ward reportedly worked out with Brown in Houston last week. Brown played under Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson at Houston in 2022.
At 6'2 and 195 pounds, Brown has excellent height at WR. Brown was eighth in the Big XII in 2023, averaging 67.9 receiving yards per game. Brown would help Miami fill the void left for a big receiver when Colbie Young transferred to Georgia. Miami also returns 6'4 junior WR Isaiah Horton in 2024.
Brown has two seasons of eligibility remaining after the 2020 COVID year and a redshirt season in 2021 at West Virginia. Miami would set a foundation at WR for the next two seasons with the addition of Brown. Brown is a big-play receiver who had 33 receptions for first downs, 20 catches of 15 or more yards and seven of 25 or more.
Jacolby George and Xavier Restrepo are the only experienced WRs on the 2024 Miami roster. Freshman JoJo Trader was impressive this spring. The addition of Brown would allow Trader and the other young WRs on the Miami roster to develop at their own rate, instead of having to produce at a high rate as freshmen.
