Miami football nears top 10 transfer class with DT Simeon Barrow commit
The Miami football program continued a hot week in the transfer portal, adding Michigan State defensive tackle Simeon Barrow. Miami has 14 transfer additions and is the 12th-ranked class in the 247Sports transfer rankings. Barrow is the fifth transfer to Miami since last Saturday.
Miami previously added Oregon State running back Damien Martinez, Louisville linebacker Jaylin Alderman, Marshall cornerback Dyoni Hill and Houston wide receiver Sam Brown. Alderman, Brown and Martinez are projected starters. Barrow and Hill will compete in August training camp for first team on the depth chart.
Barrow is the fourth transfer defensive lineman Miami has added to its 2024 roster. C.J. Clark from North Carolina State and Marley Cook from Middle Tennessee State are transfer DTs new to Miami in 2024. Miami also added Marshall edge rusher Elijah Alston for 2024. The Hurricanes will have an experienced two-deep DL.
Miami returns Anthony Campbell, Joshua Horton and Ahmad Moten at DT. The Hurricanes also signed an elite group of DL in the 2024 class. Five-star DL Armondo Blount and Justin Scott will have an opportunity to earn playing time at DT behind Barrow, Cook and Clark. The addition of Barrow will also allow the freshmen time to develop.
Barrow was a three-year starter for Michigan State. After redshirting as a true freshman in 2020, Barrow started 10 games in each of the last three seasons. Barrow had 110 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, one pass breakup, one fumble recovery and two forced fumbles in three seasons at Michigan State.
Barrow has developed beyond his high school ranking as the 780th prospect, 35th strongside DE and 76th player in Georgia out of Grovetown in the 2020 class. In 2023 Barrow had 36 tackles, 5.5 TFLs, 3.5 sacks and one forced fumble. At 6-feet-3 and 300 pounds Barrow provides Miami with a needed run stuffer in the middle of the DL.
