Miami football non-conference opponents top transfers

The four non-conference opponents of the Miami football team each added transfers to their rosters who are expected to make an impact an impact in 2024.

The Miami football team will open the season against Florida which has the fifth-ranked 2024 transfer class. Miami will return home to play Florida A&M who added several transfers from Power Five programs, Ball State with a few transfers from major programs and at South Florida who also brought in key players throught the portal.

The top transfer for Florida is a name familiar to Miami fans. After de-committing from Miami to Colorado during his recruitment, Cormani McClain transferred to Florida following one season in Boulder. There have been varying reports about McClain's status on the Florida roster.

McClain had 13 tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss and two pass breakups during his one season at Colorado in 2023. McClain was the 14th-ranked prospect, top CB and fourth player in Florida in the 2023 247Sports composite rankings. The 2024 season could be pivotal for McClain's future.

Former Pittsburgh tight end Karter Johnson is one of two Panthers who transferred to Florida A&M this season. Johnson is the highest-ranked FAMU transfer and had 18 receptions for 264 yards and two touchdowns in two seasons with Pittsburgh. Johnson had 12 receptions for 175 yards and two TDs in 2023.

Eastern Kentucky running back Braedon Sloan is the top transfer on Ball State. Sloan had 765 rushing yards and 10 TDs with 40 receptions for 467 yards and another three scores, adding 15 kick returns for 397 yards. Sloan should help boost a Ball State rushing offense that averaged 171.50 yards per game in 2023.

Wide receiver Jaden Alexis is the top South Florida transfer. During the Longhorns' College Football Playoff season, the Pompano Beach Monarch alum had 23 receptions for 280 yards and two TDs for Texas. Nine of the 14 incoming transfers for South Florida are from Power Five programs.

Miami has to be focused on each game. All four of Miami's non-conference opponents have previous players at Power Five programs. FAMU could be the best FCS program Miami has ever played as the top-ranked team in the second level of Division I football. Ball State, UF USF offers different challenges.
