Miami football offensive early enrollees spring expectations
Deryc Plazz is a player with a lot of potential on the OL and one of the leaders in the 2024 Miami class. Plazz played left tackle for Jacksonville Mandarin as they were the 4M runner-up in 2023. Miami is expected to move Plazz inside. Plazz is projected as a multi-year starter after taking a few years to develop.
Judd Anderson is a developmental prospect who provides Miami with needed depth at quarterback. With Cam Ward, Jacurri Brown, Reese Poffenbarger and Emory Williams ahead of him at QB, Anderson is a near lock to redshirt in 2024. The spring will be a time for Anderson to learn the offense and develop.
Wheatley-Humphrey provides depth at running back. Miami has a good mix of veterans and young players who need to develop at RB this season. It is difficult to see a path for Wheatley-Humphrey to earn a lot of snaps in 2024. Wheatley-Humphrey improved every year he was in high school. The spring gives him a chance to develop.
Nino Francavilla is a developmental center for Miami behind Indiana transfer Zach Carpenter and redshirt sophomore Ryan Rodriguez. The spring will provide Francavilla the chance to learn from OL coach Alex Mirabal and learn about playing center at the college level from Carpenter and Rodriguez. Francavilla is a near-lock to redshirt in 2024.
Murray is not included in the count of offensive early enrollees as stated above. With the return of Andres Borregales in 2024, Murray will spend a year developing and redshirt. Murray is the sixth-ranked kicker in the 2024 class. Miami gains depth at kicker and already has their successor to All-ACC Borregales.
This spring is an important time for the Miami football program to develop talent and for Ward to work the the players on offense to build chemistry. For Carr, Lofton, Trader and potentially Plazz the spring is a chance to assert themselves and potentially challenge for first-team snaps. This is a transitional spring for Miami.
