The Miami football team was picked third in the 2024 ACC Football Preseason Media Poll released on Wednesday. As expected Florida State was picked first and Clemson second. Miami earned 17 first-place votes and 2,344 points in the voting. Florida State earned 81 first-place votes and 2,708 points and Clemson had 55 and 2,657.
Miami does not play Clemson this season. Florida State plays at Miami on October 26. Virginia Tech who visits Miami on September 27 in the ACC season opener for both teams was picked sixth in the preseason poll. Louisville where Miami plays on October 19 was picked fifth in the ACC preseason poll.
The other 2024 Miami opponents are Georgia Tech who is picked ninth, California 10th, Duke 11th, Syracuse 12th and Wake Forest 15th. Miami plays at California on October 5, hosts Duke on November 2 and Wake Forest on November 23. Miami plays at Georgia Tech on November 9 and Wake Forest on November 23.
Miami begins the season on August 31 at Florida. Florida A&M plays at Miami on September 7 and Ball State on September 14. Miami concludes non-conference play at South Florida on September 21. Miami was one of seven teams who received first-place votes in the preseason ACC poll.
In addition to Florida State, Miami and Clemson, North Carolina State received eight first-place votes, Virginia Tech five, California two and Boston College and Georgia Tech one each. There were 170 voters in the 2024 ACC Preseason Media Poll.
The 2024 Preseason All-ACC team and Players of the Year should be announced later this week. Miami has several players who should have a chance to be named first-team preseason All-ACC. Quarterback Cam Ward is the early favorite to earn preseason ACC Player of the Year.
Defensive lineman Rueben Bain, linebacker Francisco Mauigoa, offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa, running back Damien Martinez and wide receiver Xavier Restrepo are all contenders to earn first-team preseason All-ACC with Ward.
