Miami football projected pre-spring defensive depth chart
Linebackers
Mauigoa is expected to be out this spring. That will provide several other LBs with the opportunity for first-team spring snaps with Bissainthe. Sophomores Raul Aguirre, Malik Bryant, Marcellius Pulliam and Bobby Washington have a lot of potential. Freshmen Adarius Hayes and Cameron Pruitt were both early enrollees.
Cornerbacks
Brown and Darryl Porter are the only returning starters in the secondary. Miami will have a third CB starting plus the two safeties. Brown is out for the beginning of spring practice. Jaidius Richard is the projected favorite to be the third first-team CB. Freshman Zaquan Patterson could see time as a slot CB and at safety this spring.
Safety
Powell and Riley are the favorites to be the starting safeties. Markeith Williams starting for Miami in the Pinstripe Bowl loss to Rutgers. Brian Balom showed promise early in his career but has only four tackles in 18 games over the last three seasons. Taylor is the son of Miami DL coach Jason Taylor.
Miami has its second spring practice on Wednesday. The spring is a key time to develop early enrollees, young returnees and transfers. The continuity Miami has on its coaching staff is critical this spring. Running backs coach Matt Merrill and secondary coach Chevis Jackson are the only new coaches on the Miami staff.
