Miami football regular season history in neutral site games
In another game that was technically a neutral site game, Miami defeated Maryland at Baltimore Memorial Stadium. The Hurricanes rallied from a 23-12 deficit to earn the win. A Brett Perriman 74-yard punt return helped fuel the Miami comeback. Miami avenged heartbreaking losses to BC and Maryland in 1984.
Miami was reemerging after probation pushed them into mediocrity in the mid-1990s. Number 12 Miami upset ninth-ranked Ohio State by outgaining the Buckeyes 398-220. Miami quarterback Kelly Kelly ran for one TD, threw for another and helped the Hurricanes convert two two-point conversions.
The game was moved to North Carolina State with East Carolina dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Floyd. Miami was unable to hold a 23-3 third-quarter lead in the loss. The game was the breakout performance for Clinton Portis with 147 yards rushing on 27 carries with one TD.
The game was a homecoming for Miami quarterback Brock Berlin who grew up in Shreveport. Miami dominated Louisiana Tech which was playing 100 miles from its campus. Miami outgained Louisiana Tech 467-310. Berlin threw for 203 yards and Gore ran for 118 in the Miami win.
