Miami football regular season history in neutral site games
In another game on a neutral site that gave their opponent a clear home crowd, Miami was dominated by Notre Dame. After leading 13-3 at halftime, Notre Dame outscored Miami 21-0 in the third quarter at Soldier Field in Chicago. Notre Dame outgained Miami 598-285 in the decisive win.
Miami entered the game ranked eighth after its 10-3 2017 season. Twenty-fifth-ranked LSU debuted 2019 Heisman Trophy quarterback Joe Burrow. LSU running Nick Brossette ran for 125 yards and two TDs to carry the Tigers to the convincing win. Two Miami fourth-quarter TDs made the final score much closer than it appeared.
In an exciting game with five lead changes, Florida outlasted Miami in the 2019 season opener in Orlando. A Jeff Thomas fumble on a punt in the third quarter and Bubba Baxa missed field goal late in the fourth were critical in the Miami loss in Manny Diaz's debut as head coach.
Miami was overmatched in Atlanta at Mercedes Benz Stadium against the then-preeminent program in college football. The loss to Alabama was in front of another partial crowd on what was technically a neutral field. Alabama dominated by holding Miami to 178 yards of total offense.
Most of the neutral site regular season games Miami has played in its history have been in front of crowds that favored their opposition. That will likely be the case when Miami plays Utah in Las Vegas at Alligent Stadium in 2027. Las Vegas is about a six hour drive or 1:20 flight from Salt Lake City.
