Miami football: Report states buy Ohio State buzz for QB Will Howard
Pete Nakos of On3 reported to "buy the buzz on Ohio State...that Will Howard and Ohio State have been in conversations." Howard and Washington State transfer Cam Ward, who announced on Monday he is entering the NFL Draft, are the only signal callers from the portal Miami has hosted.
Nakos said that he thinks Miami will take some time to reevaluate where they will go next with a potential transfer quarterback. Malachi Nelson of USC has been widely linked to Miami by Nakos and other college football analysts. Nakos also stated there could be QBs to watch who have not entered the transfer portal.
The deadline to enter the transfer portal is Tuesday. A second spring transfer portal window is open from April 16 through 30. Teams will most likely not wait that long for a QB unless a highly-ranked signal caller enters the transfer portal. Programs want their next QB available for spring practice.
Miami currently has 2024 redshirt sophomore Jacurri Brown, sophomore Emory Williams and incoming freshman Judd Anderson as the only QBs on the roster. Brown and Williams would be projected to compete for first-team snaps during spring football if Miami does not add a transfer QB.
""Buy the buzz on Ohio State...I definitely think that Will Howard and Ohio State have been in conversations. I definitely could see it coming together." "

Miami put itself into a quandary by seemingly going all in on Ward. If Nelson goes to Ohio State, the quarterbacks remaining in the transfer portal are not as experienced or as highly ranked as Howard or Ward. Nelson attempted only three passes with one completion as a true freshman for USC in 2023.
If Nelson transfers to Ohio State, Miami will almost definitely be without a proven highly ranked QB in 2024. Brown has the most upside of the three QBs on the Miami roster but still has a lot of developing left to do. Where Miami goes next at QB will have a big impact on how the 2024 season plays out.
