Miami football schedules quality Group of 5 opponent with Troy in 2027

It was revealed on Wednesday that the Miami football program has scheduled two-time defending Sun Belt Conference champion Troy for the 2027 season. Miami defeated Troy 38-7 during its undefeated 2001 National Championship season, the only time they have played.

The 2001 season was the first for Troy in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Troy finished 7-4 in 2001. Troy also lost 42-14 to Nebraska in 2001. Miami defeated Nebraska 37-14 in the Rose Bowl to win its third and most recent National Championship.

Troy is 159-125 in 23 years in FBS. The Trojans were 23-5 in the past two seasons. Jon Sumrall led Troy to a 22-5 record in 2022 and 2023 before being hired at Tulane for the 2024 season. Former Notre Dame and West Virginia offensive coordinator Gerad Parker was hired to succeed Sumrall.

Troy is 1-13 all-time versus ACC opponents. The Trojans one win was versus Florida State in 2006. Florida State has five of the 13 wins over Troy. Troy is 14-42 versus programs that were in Power Conferences in 2023. Troy is 8-10 all-time versus Big XII teams. Most of that is a 6-3 record versus Central Florida.

Troy played UCF in nine consecutive seasons from 1987 through 1995. Kansas State defeated Troy 42-13 and Duke beat the Trojans 17-10 in the Birmingham Bowl in their only games versus Power Conference opponents during the 2023 season. Troy has nine games scheduled versus power conference opponents through 2032.

Miami is one of two power conference opponents for Troy in 2027. A week after playing at Hard Rock Stadium, Troy will host Mississippi State. South Carolina on September 18 is the only other non-conference game scheduled for Miami in 2027. Miami last played a Sun Belt team when it beat Appalachian State 25-23 in 2021.

Miami will host California, Georgia Tech, Louisville, and Virginia in ACC play in 2027.Duke, Florida State, North Carolina State and Virginia Tech will host Miami during the 2027 season. Expect Miami to add another Group of Five opponent and one from the FCS to finished the 2027 schedule.
