With Damari Brown and Darryl Porter Jr. as the projected 2024 starting cornerbacks, the Miami football program is searching for a third player in the rotation. At 6'1 and 195 pounds, junior Jadais Richard is the likely front-runner to become the third CB in the Miami rotation.

Richard provides Miami with much needed length at CB. With Brown out this spring, Richard and the other Miami CBs will have an opportunity to establish themselves by receiving first-team snaps opposite Porter. Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported that Richard allowed 11 receptions on 15 targets for 160 yards in 2023.

Jackson observed Richard commit a penalty and give up a TD on Wednesday during the first week of spring practice. How Richard performs this spring could determine if Miami needs to sign a CB in the spring transfer portal open from April 16-30. Richard spoke about the lack of CB depth this spring last week.

Miami also has Demetrius Freeney and Jaden Harris returning at CB. Harris can play CB or safety. Richard praised the performance of freshman Dylan Day during spring practice. Day shined at the Under Armour All-American Game in Orlando in January. Day and Richard are both from Louisiana.

"“Jadais is going to be a dude...A 6-2 long corner, I feel he has all the tools to be the next great one on the other side of me."

Richard had 14 tackles in 11 games in 2023 after transferring from Vanderbilt. As a freshman with the Commodores in 2022, Richard had six tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack and two passes defended in 2022. Richard was the 368th signee, 31st safety and 16th player in Louisiana, in the 2022 247Sports composite rankings.

In his meeting with reporters last week, Richard said he has a leaner body than when he transferred to Miami during the 2023 off-season. Richard was listed as a defensive back on the 2022 Vanderbilt roster. Richard and several other Miami DBs provide versatility in the secondary.
