Five-star Miami football 2024 defensive lineman signee Justin Scott was named by Greg Biggins of 247Sports as one of the "Polynesian Bowl: Top performers from Day 2 of practice." Scott, who signed his National Letter of Intent last month, is the top-ranked signee in the 2024 Miami class.
Scott is the 15th prospect, third DL and top player in Illinois in the 2024 247Sports Composite Rankings. Scott leads an extremely deep Miami DL in the 2024 class. Miami also signed five-star DL Armondo Blount and four-stars Artavius Jones, Marquise Lightfoot, Booker Pickett Jr. and Elias Rudolph.
Pickett is also competing in the Polynesian Bowl this week in Hawaii. Pickett shined at the Under Armour All-American Bowl earlier this month with four tackles, tied for a game-leading 2.5 tackles for loss, was the only player in the game with two sacks, had two quarterback hurries and a forced fumble.
Pickett is the 226th prospect, 19th edge rusher and 33rd recruit in Florida in the 247Sports 2024 Composite Rankings. At 6'3 and 205 pounds, there have been concerns about Pickett's slight frame. Pickett can be a player who exceeds his rankings. Pickett show explosiveness off the edge in the Under Armour All-America Bowl
"JUSTIN SCOTT, DL, (MIAMI)- Greg Biggins 247Sports
Scott is playing on the edge but frame wise, we definitely think he makes the move to more of an interior defensive lineman in college. He’s a big bodied kid with a ready-to-play-now frame built for the trenches. He’s a strong, physical kid and was able to flash for us during the limited team drills Team Mauka participated in. For his size, Scott moves well, uses his hands well and can bully opposing lineman."
Pickett Jr. was a late arrival to Hawaii because of the weather. This could be the second class in a row Miami has an under-ranked DL. Rueben Bain was a four-star signee with Miami in the 2023 class despite a prolific career at Miami Central as a pass rusher. Bain won the 2023 ACC Rookie Defensive Player of the Year.
With the depth Miami has at edge rusher in 2024, Pickett will have a more difficult time making an impact as a freshman. Miami has more uncertainty at defensive tackle. Scott will compete for snaps this spring and during the 2024 season. Miami lost DTs Branson Deen and Leonard Taylor from its 2024 roster.
In addition to Pickett Jr. playing in the Under Armour All-America Bowl in Orlando, Scott played in the All-American Game in San Antonio. The Polynesian Bowl is Friday with a 9 PM Eastern Time kickoff on the NFL Network. Kanoa Lehi, Steve Weiss and Dee Stroying will call the game.
