Miami football squeaks inside ESPN post spring transfer portal FPI top 25
The Miami football program ranks 23rd nationally in the ESPN Football Power Index post-spring transfer portal rankings. Miami is fourth in the ACC behind Florida State, Clemson and Louisville. Florida State is 11th nationally in the FPI, Clemson is 15th and Louisville is 21st.
Miami plays at Louisville on October 19 and hosts Clemson on October 26. Clemson and Miami do not play during the 2024 regular season. Florida is the only other team on the 2024 Miami schedule ranked ahead of the Hurricanes. Florida is 20th in the FPI.
The FPI projects Miami with a record of 8.2-4.0. Miami is given a 1.1 percent chance to go undefeated, a 90.4 percent chance for six wins, a 9.9 percent chance to win the ACC, an 18.2 percent chance to earn a College football playoff berth, 1.9 percent chance to make the CFP National Championship game and 0.6 percent to win the title.
The consensus odds to win the ACC list Clemson and Florida State as the co-favorites with Miami third. Behind Miami, SMU is given a 9.0 percent chance to win the ACC, followed by North Carolina State at 7.5 percent. Everyone else in the ACC is given less than a 5.0 percent chance to win the conference.
Among the other ACC teams on Miami's schedule, California is 43rd nationally in the FPI, Virginia Tech 50th, Duke 52nd, Georgia Tech 54th, Wake Forest 59th and Syracuse 70th. Among the non-conference FBS teams on Miami's 2024 schedule, Florida is 20th in the FPI, South Florida is 88th and Ball State is 123rd.
Miami also plays FCS Florida A&M in 2024. The FPI does not rank FCS programs. Miami should be favored to win every game this season except Florida, Florida State and Louisville. If Miami can split versus FSU and Louisville they will have an opportunity to make the ACC Championship game.
