A Miami football staff member told Hurricanes' sideline reporter Josh Darrow that true freshman running back Jordan Lyle is a name to watch. Lyle is the 37th player in the 2025 class, the top RB and eighth signee in Florida per On3. Lyle was rated significantly higher by On3 than other recruiting outlets.
Lyle had consecutive 1,000-yard seasons in his final two high school years with St. Thomas Aquinas. As a senior in 2023 Lyle ran for 1,376 yards, averaged 10.6 yards per carry and scored 21 touchdowns. Lyle had a breakout season in 2022 with 1,015 rushing yards and 12 TDs.
Lyle is part of a Miami RB room named the sixth best entering the 2024 season by Pro Football Focus. Oregon State transfer Damien Martinez, sophomore Mark Fletcher and redshirt sophomore Ajay Allen are projected to receive the majority of carries for Miami in 2024.
Lyle will compete with redshirt freshman Chris Johnson and fellow 2024 signee Chris Wheatley-Humphrey for carries in 2024. Miami primarily used four RBs in 2023. That could change with the addition of Martinez in 2024.
Miami flipped Lyle from Ohio State a few days before Early National Signing Day in December 2023. Lyle is the third-highest-ranked signee in the 2024 Miami class behind defensive linemen Marquise Lightfoot and Justin Scott. Lyle is the highest-ranked 2024 Miami signee on offense.
Miami brought in multiple blue-chip skill position players on offense in the 2024 class. In addition to Lyle, Miami signed four-star tight end Elija Lofton and four-star wide receivers Ny Carr, Chance Robinson and Joshisa Trader. Lofton, Lyle and Trader all have the potential to contribute in 2024.
Lofton is a versatile player who received snaps at H-back, RB and TE during spring practice. The freshmen WRs will play behind Houston transfer Sam Brown and returning starters Xavier Restrepo and Jacolby George. The veterans will allow Miami to develop the freshmen skill position players.
