The Miami football team is trailing for three-star running back Shekai Mills-Knight who will make his commitment announcement on August 17. Alabama Auburn, Miami, Mississippi and Tennessee are the finalists for Mills-Knight. All five finalists hosted Mills-Knight for official visits in June per On3.

Mississippi is the prohibitive favorite for a commitment from Mills-Knight. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine projects Mississippi with a 94.7 percent chance for a Mills-Knight commitment. David Johnson of Inside the Rebels logged the sole 247Sports crystal ball for Mills-Knight.

Mills-Knight took his official visit to Miami the weekend of May 31 and Alabama hosted Mills-Knight the weekend of June 7. Mills-Knight visited Auburn on June 10, Tennessee on June 14 and Mississippi on June 21. Mississippi hosted Mills-Knight seven times including unofficial visits.

Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee each hosted Mills-Knight twice. That included the official visit. Florida, Michigan and Penn State all hosted Mills-Knight for unofficial visits earlier this year per On3. The commitment from Mills-Knight comes about a week before he begins his senior high school season with the Baylor School in Chattanooga.

Mills-Knight is the 252nd-ranked prospect, 17th RB and sixth player in Tennessee in the 2025 247Sports composite rankings. On3 quoted Mills-Knight saying he has already decided which program he will commit to and that he is ready to make his commitment announcement.

Mills-Knight stated the decision came down to which program would develop him best as a running back, where he can get a good education with the chance to win a national championship. Alabama is ranked fifth in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll and Mississippi is sixth. Tennesssee is 15th in the AP Top 25, Miami 19th and Auburn received two points.

All but Auburn are currently in a position to make runs to the College Football Playoff in 2024. All of the RBs on the 2024 Miami roster have eligibility remaining beyond this season. Getting immediate playing time will be difficult for Miami RBs in 2025 and potentially 2026.
