The Miami football team became the fifth program nationally with top 10 recruiting and transfer classes in 2024 with the addition of edge rusher Tyler Baron on Tuesday night. Miami signed the fourth-best 2024 class and now has the 10th-ranked transfer class with the addition of Baron.
Baron is the 72nd-ranked transfer and 10 edge rusher in the 2024 portal per the 247Sports rankings. Miami previously added Marshall transfer edge rusher Elijah Alston. Miami will have one of the best edge rushing units nationally with returning starters Rueben Bain and Akheem Mesidor at the position.
Baron had the best season of his collegiate career in 2023 with 28 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks, 2.0 passes defended and one forced fumble. Miami could move Bain and Mesidor inside on passing downs with Alston and Baron on the edge to provide Miami with a fierce pass rush.
Miami is now the second-highest-ranked transfer class in the ACC. Florida State is seventh nationally and first in the ACC. Miami has 15 new transfers while Florida State has 17. Baron is the fourth-highest ranked transfer edge rusher in the ACC. Marvin Jones Jr. of Florida State is first.
Baron is the 15th transfer addition for Miami, sixth this spring and 10th on defense to the 2024 roster. Almost all of the Miami transfers will have a chance to compete for first-team snaps during August training camp. Some of the incoming transfers add needed depth to the 2024 Miami roster.
Miami has received consensus praise for signing the best 2024 DL class. The transfer class might match the 2024 freshmen. In addition to Alston, Miami also added transfer defensive tackles Simeon Barrow from Michigan State, C.J. Clark from North Carolina State and Marley Cook from Middle Tennessee State.
Miami defensive line coaches Joe Salave'a and Jason Taylor have done an exceptional job securing talent in the last year plus. Taylor was the third highest-ranked recruiter in the 2024 class. That does not include transfers. Miami should have an elite 2024 DL.
