The Miami football program is trending for four-star Jacksonville Mandarin safety Hylton Stubbs after he de-committed from USC on Thursday. Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong of On3, Tom Loy and Gaby Urrutia of 247Sports have all logged predictions in favor of Miami for Stubbs.

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine projects Miami as a prohibitive favorite for a commitment from Stubbs at 79.2 percent. Florida has a 17.3 percent chance for a commitment. Every other school including USC now has less than a two percent chance for a commitment from Stubbs.

Stubbs took his official visit to Miami the weekend of June 21 after three unofficial visits to Coral Gables previously. USC hosted Stubbs the weekend of May 31 Florida hosted him the weekend of June 14 for official visits. USC has lost several commitments in the 2025 class recently. Stubbs initially committed to USC in March.

The 247Sports composite rankings list Stubbs as the 56th prospect, sixth safety and ninth playerrs in Florida in the 2025 class. Loy reported Stubbs told Andrew Ivins the 247Sports Director of Scouting he will announce his decision between Florida and Miami on July 4.

Miami gained commitments from cornerbacks Timothy Merritt and Chris Ewald and safety Amari Wallace in June. The secondary which needs to add playmakers is coming together in the 2025 class. Stubbs would be the highest-ranked player in the 2025 Miami recruiting class by over 100 spots nationally.

Linebacker Elijah Melendez who is the 135th-ranked prospect nationally is currently the top-ranked committed player in the 2025 Miami class. A commitment from Stubbs would move Miami from the 17th-ranked class nationally to 14th as the 2025 classes were late on Sunday night.

Stubbs would be a huge boost for a Miami secondary that will have two new starting safeties in 2024. Four-star 2024 safety signee Zaquan Patterson is expected to compete for significant snaps this season. Washington transfer Mishael Powell has one year of eligibility remaining with Miami.

Patterson, Stubbs and Wallace would provide Miami with three blue-chip safeties in the future. Safety is one of the last positions for Cristobal to fill through high school recruiting. The 2025 Miami class appears to be trending to have one of the best secondaries nationally.
