The Miami football team should be in a good position on the offensive line with official visits beginning at the end of the month after three-star tackle Lamar Williams de-commited on Thursday. The de-commitment from Williams was reportedly mutual between him and Miami.
Williams is the 509th ranked prospect, 40th OT and 70 recruit in Florida out of Havana Gadsen County. Miami hosted Williams in late January. A commitment on February 2 from Williams followed about a week later. Williams was the only OL committed to Miami in the 2025 class before his de-commitment.
Florida and Florida State are the only other programs that hosted Williams for unofficial visits, per his 247Sports profile. Houston is listed as the new favorite for Williams, with a 56.2 percent chance for a commitment per his On3 profile. Williams is taking an official visit to Houston the weekend of June 21, per On3.
Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U reported on Thursday that Houston, Tulane and West Virginia offered Williams during the winter contact period. Miami has rotated towards the eight OL they will be hosting between the weekend of May 31 and June 21. Miami is hosting five interior OL and three tackles in that span.
Center Zach Carpenter is the only OL in the projected 2024 rotation, entering his last season of eligibility. Left tackle Jalen Rivers, a fifth-year redshirt junior entering the 2024 season, seems likely to enter the 2025 NFL Draft. Right tackle Francis Mauigoa will likely leave following the 2025 season.
Miami has junior Markel Bell and redshirt freshman Samson Okunlola at OT behind Mauigoa and Rivers. Returning starting junior right guard Anez Cooper is also eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft. How well Cooper performs during the 2024 season will influence his decision for 2025.
Four-star interior OL Cortez Smith is the only one of the eight OL Miami is hosting who is a blue-chip prospect. Georgia is the heavy favorite for Smith, with a 94.5 percent chance for a commitment per On3. Late May, though, will be a critical month for Miami on the OL in the 2025 class.
