Miami football will look for transfer DT after Jared Harrison-Hunte enters portal
The Miami football program will likely be searching for a defense tackle in the spring window after it was widely reported on Monday that Sixth-Year Redshirt Senior Jared Harrison-Hunte entered the transfer portal. Harrison-Hunte originally signed with Miami in the 2019 class from Middle Village, New York.
Harrison-Hunte has been a productive player for Miami in the last four seasons after redshirting as a true freshman in 2019. In four seasons playing in 42 games, Harrison-Hunte has 78 career tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, nine sacks, one forced fumble and one pass defended. Harrison-Hunte made 22 starts in his Miami career.
Miami signed C.J. Clark from North Carolina State and Marley Cook from Middle Tennessee State at DT to compete with Harrison-Hunte and add depth on the interior of the defensive line in 2024. Miami returns Anthony Campbell, Thomas Gore, Josh Horton and Ahmad Moten at DT entering the 2024 season.
Campbell and Gore transferred to Miami during the 2024 offseason. Horton is a redshirt freshman and Moten is a redshirt sophomore. Five-star prospects Armondo Blount and Justin Scott signed with Miami at DT in the 2024 class. Blount can play edge rusher and tackle and Scott is a more traditional interior defensive lineman.
Gore contributed the most in 2023 of the returning Miami DTs, with eight tackles, four TFLs and two sacks. Moten is the only other returning Miami DT who recorded a stat in 2023 for the Hurricanes with two tackles and an interception. Clark and Cook were productive players last season.
Clark had 22 tackles, 4.0 TFLs and a sack for NC State in 2023. Cook had 22 tackles, 6.0 TFLs, 1.0 sack, one pass defended, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery for Middle Tennessee State in 2023. Miami has reportedly contacted several top DTs in the transfer portal before Harrison-Hunte's departure.
