Miami football will open 2027 season versus Utah at Vegas Kickoff Classic

The Miami football team will play Utah for the first time in the 2027 Vegas Kickoff Classic to begin the season.

The Miami football program will open the 2027 against Utah, the other U at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas in the Vegas Kickoff Classic. Miami and Utah will be the third Vegas Kickoff Class. BYU beat Arizona 24-16 in the inaugural Vegas Kickoff Classic. LSU and USC will play in the 2024 Vegas Kickoff Classic.

The 2027 Vegas Kickoff Classic will be the first meeting between Miami and Utah. Utah will be playing in its first season in the Big XII in 2024. This will be the first game for Miami in Las Vegas. Miami defeated UNLV 51-7 during homecoming in 1972. Utah has frequently played in Las Vegas.

The Utes were previously in the Mountain West with UNLV and have played in five Las Vegas Bowl games. Utah lost 14-7 to Northwestern in the 2023 Las Vegas Bowl. Utah is 3-1 all-time versus the ACC. Georgia Tech lost both of its matchups with Utah. North Carolina split a home-and-home series with Utah in 2004 and 2005.

Miami split a home-and-home series with BYU in 1988 and 1990 and beat Utah State 17-16 in 1978 among other programs from the Beehive State. Utah is 2-1 all-time versus Florida and 1-0 against South Florida. Miami will be more familiar with games out west by 2027 with a trip to California in 2024 and Stanford in 2026.

Miami also hosts Troy and South Carolina in their other 2027 non-conference games. Utah will play Wyoming in their other 2027 non-conference game with the date to be announced that has been scheduled. Utah is the only Big XII team on future Miami non-conference schedules.

Miami last played a Big XII team when they lost 37-34 to Oklahoma State in the 2020 Cheez-It Bowl. Kansas State was the last time Miami played a Big XII team during the regular season in 2012. The game in Las Vegas will be the first neutral site regular season game for Miami since they lost to Alabama in Atlanta in 2021.
