The commitment from four-star wide receiver Daylyn Upshaw on Saturday gave the Miami football program a complete roster except for an interior defensive lineman in the 2025 class. Edge rusher Herbert Scroggins is the only defensive lineman committed to Miami in the 2025 class.
Miami has the ninth-ranked 2025 class. The 2025 Miami class is strongest at cornerback, on the offensive line, safety and tight end. Miami signed what was widely regarded as the best DL in the 2024 class. Five-star defensive tackle Justin Scott was the highest-ranked signee in the 2024 Miami class.
Four-star DL Jarquez Carter who is making his commitment announcement on July 18 is trending to Miami. Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U logged a 247Sports crystal ball projecting Carter will commit to Miami. Three-star prospect Floyd Boucard is another DL to watch. Boucard will announce his decision on July 20.
Miami is also strongly recruiting five-star DL Elijah Griffin who is trending to Georgia. Griffin would be a foundational player in the 2025 Miami class. A potential future tandem of Griffin and Scott would provide Miami with one of the best duos at defensive tackle nationally.
Griffin has not announced a commitment date. As the fourth-ranked prospect and top DT in the 2025 class, the recruitment for Griffin could last through the Early National Signing period in December. With an elite recruit like Griffin, Miami might need to have a great season to have a chance to sign him.
Miami will have to replace defensive tackles C.J. Clark and Marley Cook and versatile lineman Anthony Campbell, who can also play on the interior after the 2024 season. The Hurricanes set the foundation at tackle in the 2024 class with five-star signees tackle Justin Scott and versatile lineman Armondo Blount.
Miami hosted seven defensive linemen (tackles) for official visits in June as listed by 247Sports. Most of them are committed to other programs or trending elsewhere. Expect Mario Cristobal and his staff to be relentless in pursuing the DL they want in the 2025 class. Scott flipped late in the 2024 recruiting cycle.
