Miami football WR JoJo Trader named national player to watch in spring game
Wide receiver JoJo Trader was named by Jesse Simonton of On3 in his article, "QBs Will Howard, Jalen Milroe headline key players to watch on a loaded Saturday of spring games." Trader has received constant praise this spring for his performance during practices with the Miami football team.
With an open starting receiver spot on the Miami offense, Trader has challenged junior Isaiah Horton for first-team snaps. Trader is the highest-ranked offensive prospect in the 2024 Miami class. The 247Sports composite rankings list Trader 42nd overall, the ninth-best WR and ninth in Florida.
Trader had 47 receptions for 757 yards and 14 touchdowns as a senior at Chaminade-Madonna. Trader played opposite 2024 Ohio State WR signee Jeremiah Smith, who was the top-ranked recruit in the 2024 class. As a freshman in 2024, Trader is trending to have a breakout season with Miami.
Miami signed an elite group of four-star WRs in the 2024 class with Ny Carr, Chance Robinson and Trader. Carr is also participating in spring practice. Robinson will arrive after he graduates from St. Thomas Aquinas this spring. Trader is trending to be at least fourth in the Miami WR rotation.
"WR JoJo Trader, Miami
- Jesse Simonton, On3
A former teammate of Smith at Chaminade-Madonna HS (Fla.), the 4-star signee has caused all sorts of problems for Miami’s secondary during the team’s 14 practices and will give Hurricanes fans a glimpse of his tremendous upside Saturday. Miami has two of the top returning receivers in the ACC in Xavier Restrepo and Jacolby George, and Trader stands to provide even more juice to a solid receiver room."
Saturday will be the first time for George, Restrepo and Trader to work with Cam Ward in a public scrimmage. With George and Restrepo returning, Trader can be a breakout freshman for Miami in 2024 like Rueben Bain, Mark Fletcher and Francis Mauigoa were in 2023. Bain and Mauigoa were 2024 freshmen All-Americans.
Miami is expected to pursue a transfer WR when the spring portal opening beginning on April 16. Trader's performance during spring practice has clearly signaled his ability to compete at the collegiate level immediately. Simonton highlighted several spring games this Saturday. That includes Miami.
