What just happened? A Virginia Tech Hail Mary on the last play of the game was overturned and Miami survived 38-34. Miami rallied from a 34-24 deficit in the fourth quarter with touchdowns on both drives to comeback. Miami scored TDs on their final three drives of the game.

On the final play, Virginia Tech quarterback Kyron Drones lofted the ball to the end zone where it was questionable if Hokies' wide receiver Da'Quan Felton caught the ball. ESPN rules expert Matt Austin felt the receiver never clearly came down with the ball. After it was initially ruled a touchdown, the play was reversed on replay.

Miami overcame three Cam Ward turnovers to improve to 5-0. Ward finished 24-38 for 343 yards, four touchdowns, two interceptions and a fumble lost with 10 carries for 57 yards rushing and a score. Ten Miami receivers caught passes from Ward on Friday night with seven having at least two.

Virginia Tech scored on their first drive after recovering a Ward fumble on the first Miami drive of the game. The game had multiple momentum changes throughout the night. Miami scored on their next two drives to take a 14-7 lead. Miami appeared to be in position to take a 21-7 lead, but Ward threw an interception.

Ward threw for over 300 yards with three TDs for the fifth consecutive game to likely remain the front- runner for the Heisman Trophy. In the fourth quarter alone Ward was 8-11 for 88 yards with two TDs. The game featured two ties and four lead changes with nearly a fifth lead change on the final play.

Ward entered the weekend second nationally averaging 359.8 passing yards and first with 14 TDs. Miami outgained Virginia Tech 508-394. Virginia Tech rushed for 206 yards versus a Miami defense that allowed 259 total in the first four games of the season. Miami next plays at California on October 5.
