There was some shakeup in the 12 projected teams for the College Football Playoff after week one, but it mostly remained the same from the preseason rankings. Florida State plummeted out of the top 25 after being ranked entering the season. Other teams moved up. Miami has benefitted the most.

The losses by Florida State and Clemson to begin the season and the 41-17 win by Miami over Florida has vaulted the Hurricanes into the top spot in the ACC. The top five conference winners plus seven wildcards will receive College Football Playoff berths.

Miami moved seven spots in the Associated Press Top 25 and four in the USA Today Coaches Poll. USC was also a big benefactor. The Trojans' win over LSU moved them up 10 spots in the AP Top 25 and nine in the coaches poll. USC is just outside of the top 12 in both polls.

After the win over Florida, Miami is now 11th in the ESPN Football Power Index. The Hurricanes are first among ACC teams and third among conference leaders. Miami would have a bye in the first round of the College Football Playoff. The Fiesta, Peach, Rose and Sugar Bowls are the quarterfinals this season.

The projections here were primarily taken from the highest-ranked teams in the ESPN Football Power Index and from TeamRankings.Com metrics. Oregon is the most surprising team not in the College Football Playoff. The Ducks are 10th in the FPI, but 19th in the Team Rankings metrics after a 24-14 win over Idaho.

Number three Texas at 10th ranked Michigan (in the polls) will have a big impact on the College Football Playoff rankings later in the season. As it stands now, Miami would play the winner of Texas and Oklahoma in the quarterfinals. That game would likely be in the Sugar Bowl.
