The Miami Hurricanes women's basketball team won its penultimate game of the regular season 62-44 versus Pittsburgh on Thursday night. The Miami baseball team begins a key three-game series versus Florida on Friday.
The Miami women's basketball team stifled Pittsburgh in a 62-44 win on Thursday night at the Watsco Center. Pittsburgh shot 29.0 percent from the floor and made only three of its 14 three-point attempts. Miami was particularly stingy in the fourth quarter as the Panthers made three of 19 from the floor.
Miami outscored Pittsburgh 19-8 in the fourth quarter after the Panthers had a 21-13 edge in the third quarter. Lashae Dwyer and Jasmyne Roberts led Miami with 17 points and Jaida Patrick scored 16. Liatu King led Pittsburgh with 18. Miami finishes the regular season on Sunday versus Georgia Tech.
After losing 12-10 to Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday, the Miami baseball team will host Florida in a key three-game series beginning Friday night. Miami has started the season 5-3. Florida will enter the weekend 6-2. The Gators are a consensus top-five team entering this weekend. Miami is 29th in the NCWBA poll.
Florida will start left-handed pitcher Cade Fisher (1-1, 9.00 ERA) on Friday, righty Liam Peterson (1-0, 0.00 ERA) on Saturday and start LHP Jac Caglianone (0-0, 9.00 ERA) on Sunday. Miami will start RHP Gade Ziehl (0-0, 7.71 ERA) on Friday, LHP Rafe Schlesinger (1-0, 0.82 ERA) on Saturday and LHP Herick Hernandez (2-0, 0.00 ERA) on Sunday.
Taylor's performance at the combine drew mixed reviews. Taylor ran a 5.12 40-yard dash which was 13th among defensive tackles. After a season of regressive numbers, Taylor is falling in the NFL Draft. The NFL Mock Draft Database lists Taylor as the 63rd-ranked prospect on Thursday after entering the day ranked 62nd.
Safeties Kamren Kinchens and James Williams will participate in the NFL Combine tomorrow and offensive lineman Javion Cohen and Matt Lee will have their chance in front of NFL executives and scouts on Sunday. Lee is the only one of the five Miami players participating at the combine not projected to be drafted.
